Climate Statutory Duty

Volunteers Needed

Help Shape the Future of Climate Action: Volunteer for the Climate Statutory Duty Project

The climate crisis is one of the most pressing issues facing the world today. Local authorities, which have a unique role in shaping the future of their communities, are key to driving the urgent actions required to combat climate change. A Climate Statutory Duty (CSD) would require all local authorities in the UK to take responsibility for embedding climate action into their policies and practices, helping us achieve Net Zero while safeguarding our residents and businesses.

Why This Project Matters

The Climate Statutory Duty would empower local governments to drive transformative change, helping the UK to meet its climate goals faster and more effectively. By focusing on local engagement, this initiative could lead to a renaissance in local governance, creating jobs, boosting economies, and ensuring that climate action is embedded into every aspect of life.

The Work Ahead

Creating a new law, building the evidence base, and creating momentum for change is no small task. Originally commissioned by the Independent Group of the Local Government Association (LGA), the project is now being run by volunteers due to constitutional constraints within the LGA. We are working towards a 2025 launch, and we need dedicated volunteers to help bring this project to life.

Volunteer Opportunities

We are looking for passionate individuals to assist in various areas, including:

  • Response & Evidence Curating: Gather and analyze the data that will help build a robust case for the Climate Statutory Duty.
  • Content Creation: Develop written materials, including articles, reports, and campaign literature.
  • Marketing & Networking: Assist with outreach and promotional strategies to expand our network of supporters.
  • Partner Manager: Manage key relationships with organizations and stakeholders.
  • Social Media Manager: Help us amplify the project’s message and engage with our audience online.
  • Press Officer: Handle media relations and press coverage.
  • Newsletter Manager: Oversee communications through email newsletters.
  • Web Editor (WordPress): Manage and update the project website.
  • Virtual PA: Provide remote administrative support to keep the project running smoothly.
  • General Help: If you have skills or time to contribute, we’d love to have you on board.

Your efforts will help bring a vital policy to life, ensuring that local governments take the climate crisis seriously and act decisively.
